Cymraeg yn y Cartref

Cymraeg yn y Cartref (Welsh at Home)
This is a scheme devised by Menter Iaith RCT and is part of a broader national project ‘Rediscovering your Welsh’. It is aimed at former pupils of Welsh schools, i.e. parents who need to rebuild their confidence to speak and pass on the language to their children. The hope in the long run is to increase the use of Welsh within the family home.
Nevertheless, we have also worked with non-Welsh speaking parents and learners and the project has proven to be flexible enough to be of benefit to these groups as well.
Menter Iaith’s Officer along with a young person participating in the millennium volunteer scheme (Welsh Bac) visit homes of parents with young children and offer a special resource pack, support, advice and ideas on how to communicate in Welsh with their children. This scheme has received extensive media coverage via S4C’s news programme and other Mentrau Iaith in other areas are now running similar schemes as a part of a Welsh Language Board initiative.
